Musee de la porcelaine

The history collections

The Museum’s history collections originated in the collections of the Museum Society, founded by amateurs in 1860. At the present time, various types of objects, from Neolithic times until today, are to be found in the Museum’s reserves. The common feature of all of these objects is that they come from the surrounding region or from the town itself, and despite their fragmentary nature bear witness to the past of our ancestors. They include both sets of stove tiles, manufactured between 1439 and 1449 by the House of Savoy, and artefacts inherited from the Bernese period (bailiffs’ medals, gold doubloons, portraits). The 19th and 20th century collections mainly consist of works of art, photographs (Kunz collection) and posters.
